MELANCHOLY PLAY

Melancholy Play

by Sarah Ruhl

Sarah Ruhl's contemporary farce was produced in the traditional chamber play style of containing the action to one room. In suspending scenic pieces and covering the walls of the set in a Magritte-inspired cloud pattern, the production's fast-paced comedic elements were juxtaposed with their dream-like setting forcing frantic characters to narrowly miss each other both literally and figuratively. The result was a quirky and potent commentary on human connection as it relates to genuine expressions of emotion.
